34 and still counting

Today I turned 34. I'm happy admitting it. I love being a 30-something. I feel more sure of who I am and where I am going than any other time in my life. I like that.

However, my sister sent me a card this year that made me laugh. She said, "Is this when we start enabling each other to be in denial about our age? I think so! :)" Okay, sis, you just aren't old enough yet (she's 28) and I didn't think I was old enough yet.... Liz, you trying to say I'm old? jk, I know what you are saying.

Today was a wonderful day. My friends and family have loved on me all day. This morning, we all had breakfast together and I was given my gifts. A dress (to wear out this evening), a teapot I've been eyeing, the Juno soundtrack, and my sister's gift of a sushi press. I loved that all the presents were not generic gifts but ones picked specifically for me. Something I want to remember: Madelyn has been making me birthday cards ALL DAY! She made one last night, two this morning, two at school (as well as her best friend and her student teacher), and two more after she got home. I love that she loves me THAT much!

The day was fun and I felt very loved, but now for the great part. After feeding the kids mac&cheese and settling them in with a babysitter, we headed out to a VERY nice restaurant. This is how Ben started our outing. I thought it very clever and cute.

Did you see that? The Oceanaire! The best seafood restaurant in town! And man, did we eat up. I'm so full right now, I'm gonna bust. It was terrific, thanks babe. Thanks for some real adult conversation, great food, and a great time! You know how to make an "old" girl feel special!

Oh, and these were on my table when I got home. My daddy knows how to make me feel special too.... love you, Daddy!

Happy birthday, Mel!! Your sister's card reminded me of the card I sent Aunt Beth this year. It said on the outside, "PRETTY SOON WE'RE BOTH GOING TO BE LITTLE OLD LADIES". And on the inside it said, "YOU GO FIRST." My sentiments exactly and that goes for all of my sisters. As you get older, it's time to laugh more, so the funny cards are on. I'm glad your family loved on you so much and glad that you have a real handle on the value of aging. It does have its upside even when you get to be 60!! We all love you, Aunt Lou (and the crazy Rhodeses as well :-)

What a great birthday! The dress is lovely and you look beautiful in it! And Madelyn really did a great job on the cards....But Ben, wow, awesome!! AND he's wearing a shirt I don't recognize, so he definitely did not have that one in highschool....now doesn't that make you feel special! LOL! And Mickey, wow, what a fabulous, gorgeous, magnificent basket of joy.
Happy 34th birthday to my FAVORITE 34 year old! I love you, love you, love you!!

I'm so glad that your 34th was so special! While I'm not a huge fan of surprises (too much of a planner for that), those kinds of "love surprises" are the BEST! Glad your day was full of them... and your surprise belated birthday card is on the way. Wait...

Okay, I stand corrected - the flower basket is from my Dad AND MOM. Mom, thanks for your love too! What I love about the flowers are that they are ones that I can plant outside this year and not the kind you throw away in a week or so. So thoughtful! Love you both!
