Today Greyson and I went to the allergist and received confirmation of something we already knew. After 10 pricks in his back and a blood draw, we confirmed that Greyson is allergic to peanuts. To avoid any confusion with Greyson or his care givers, we will be treating it like he is allergic to all nuts. There is a 1 in 5 chance that he will outgrow it if we keep him completely off peanuts for a time (could be years). That would mean no eating of products that could have traces of peanuts or cross-contaminanted with peanuts. Wow.... we have a lot of learning to do and labels to read.
Please Lord, help us in this endeavor. We would rather have Greyson worry about how to worship you than about what is being served to him. However it happens though, use this situation to YOUR glory.

I know this is disappointing, and actually a little frightening, but we've all been treating him as though he was allergic for quite some time now, since you guys were so alert that you'd noticed this tendency months and months ago. Goodness, the child needs to have some sort of fault. He's just too perfect otherwise! Remember when he threw up in Grandaddy's lap?! Brilliant. How could he have possibly known to do that except for being such an exceptional child. Huh? Think about it.

We just found out that Meghan is allergic to eggs. Fun!
MommaSusan - you are right, we have been keeping him off products with peanuts in them since we first suspected his allergy (13 months). But we haven't been keeping him off products that were produced in manufacturing facilities that handles peanuts or have a risk of being cross-contaminated with peanuts. That is a little (no, a lot!) more tricky. I feel sorry for the little guy when we go to visit family. Nuts are such a staple for both our extended families!! That just gives me more motivation to petition God for healing and work to rid this allergy though.
We will do our very best to keep him healthy. Let us know what you find out and we will comply. We will also pray that he be delivered from this. Did the doctor put a level on his allergy? Like anaphylactic? What can we do to help?

oh, man! God be with you in this endeavor. the big areas of concern will be dealing with church and pre-school, depending on how well they handle the allergy issue.
